Week 1 2023 was the first week of the new year. Yuri still had vacation from school. On Monday we arrived home from our weekend getaway and on Friday we left again for the next weekend getaway.

In the morning we were still at Fletcher De Gelderse Poort in Ooij. Since Paul and I had to work again that day, we left early and were home before 8.30am. On the way home we got saucijzenbroodjes (sausage rolls) and other pastries at De Saucijzenbakker. Dinner were cilantro-pancakes stuffed with Chinese vegetables from the cookbook Van Piepers tot Pasta from Blue Band.

On Wednesday I prepared a savory pie with beets and goat cheese for us from the magazine Feest from Uit Pauline’s Keuken. It was raining the whole morning and that’s when I had to bring Yuri to a friend on bike. Not the most fun thing to do, biking through the rain. Luckily when I had to pick Yuri up again it was dry.

Thursday

Brownies, still on baking paper in a baking tray
Brownies

Yuri prepared brownies from the cookbook Kinderbakboek from Laura Kieft. He had baked them the week before and they were delicious. He now made them to take with us on our family weekend getaway.

In the morning and afternoon I prepared confectioner’s cream, chocolate bavarois, pie dough and whipped cream. All to assemble a Lambertus vlaai (vlaai = pie), and two small pies. It was a test pie to check if it had the right amount of ingredients. I brought it along on our family weekend getaway.

We again had breakfast together with bread and buns. Then we went swimming (again). Lunch this day was buns with Frankfurters. Then we went to a nearby insect museum, which was fun to visit. Dinner was friet with a kroket and other snacks. In the evening we and my sister, her husband and their girls went home again. We had another fantastic family weekend.

So that was a week with baking goodies, homecooked meals and a fun family weekend getaway.
