Let’s talk about week 46 2022. We had a normal work week and then had a weekend getaway to Keulen. Which was lots of fun with Christmas markets and chocolate.
Week 46 2022
Monday
Paul prepared dinner for us. He made cod on a salad of sugar snaps and potato from the cookbook Van Piepers tot Pasta from Blue Band.
Tuesday
Yuri prepared noodle soup for dinner. His noodles did clump together a bit, but the soup was still good. Yuri liked the noodles, however not the flavor of the broth. I don’t think he will be making this recipe again.
Wednesday
In the mail I got the cookbook Feestdagen Bakboek from Laura Kieft. A gift from a friend. Dinner was fries, snacks and a kaassouflé, which Paul prepared in the deep-fryer.
Thursday
I prepared stew meat for dinner. We ate it with sweet and sour pumpkin on a bun. We had this dish before and the combination is delicious.
Friday
Paul cooked dinner for us. He made grilled zucchini with seasoned salt rub and fennel mashed potatoes. The recipe is from my new cookbook De Smaakmakers van Portugal from Aviko. I went to the city center for some shopping, such as a shirt for Yuri for a wedding next week. Also our Christmas lights went up in our garden that day.
Saturday
Really early in the morning we took the train to Cologne. We had breakfast at Utrecht Centraal Station. A frikandelbroodje, cheese croissant and a chicken curry bun from Backwerk. I also had a chai latte from Starbucks. In Cologne our first stop was the Christmasmarket at the Dom church. We shared a pretzel with cheese and bacon, glühwein and a cinnamon roll. So fun to stroll over a Christmas market.
More Christmas Markets and Food
Then we sat down for lunch at Café-lounge Alter Markt 55. They still had the breakfast buffet out, so we had breakfast for lunch. After lunch we checked into our hotel Haus Enteresan, Paul and I walked to the Hafen Weihnachtsmarkt am Schokoladenmuseum. Yuri had enough after one Christmas market. This Christmas market had a maritime theme and was next to the chocolate museum. We had white glühwein at the market, which we loved even more than the regular glühwein. We bought a lot of chocolate at the shop of the chocolate museum and went on the Ferris wheel. It was already dark so we had a perfect view on Cologne with all its lights on. I bought a small star globe with lights in it on the market.
We had dinner at Hänneschen und die Pfeffermühle with schnitzels for Paul and me and spaghetti Bolognese for Yuri.
Sunday
We had the breakfast buffet at a restaurant on the Alter Markt. There was plenty of choice and it was delicious. Afterwards we visited the Chocolate museum, which is a fun museum with a chocolate factory inside.
We had lunch at a Döner place near the Kölner Dom. Paul had curry wurst, Yuri a döner wrap and I a bun with döner. All was delicious. Then we hopped on the train back home. We took 3 trains before arriving at Utrecht Centraal Station. We had dinner with fries and milkshakes from Smullers. Then we had to take a bus for the last leg of our journey, since there was a disturbance with the trains and they didn’t stop at Lunetten station.
So this week had Christmas markets, which makes it perfect for a Christmas lover like me.
