Week 21 2022 started with homecooked meals and then a long weekend getaway. Yuri had just 3 days of school and I had only 3 days of work, since it was Ascension Day.
Week 21 2022
Monday
Paul was still down with Covid. Luckily I was up and able to do things. Also I could safely prepare dinner for us again. It doesn’t happen often, but all 3 of us didn’t like what I prepared. The Thai Prawn Salad with Chilli Tamarind Dressing was not a success. Too sharp and sour to our liking.
Tuesday
Yuri had the yearly schoolfair, which groep 8 (6th grade) organizes. With his friends he sold buns with frankfurters at a stall. They sold out completely. Dinner this day was stir fried with rice and lettuce.
Wednesday
Paul luckily felt better and had his last day of quarantine. Dinner was really simple with a baguette with frankfurters and a baked egg.
Thursday
In the afternoon we drove to Heerenveen for a long weekend away, at Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Heidehof. It was our second stay at this hotel. We were here also for Ascension Day weekend in 2021. On the first day we had a 3-course dinner at the hotel in the evening. It was delicious. We all had the savory waffle as an entrée. The main course was a mushroompie for me, Yuri had the spaghetti Bolognese and Paul the famer’s schnitzel. Dessert was a cassis royal for Yuri and sweets with coffee (or tea) for Paul and me. However Yuri was stuffed, so we split his cassis royal.
Friday
Paul and I were still pretty tired, so we had a day at the hotel. We started with the breakfast buffet at the hotel. Always good. I walked to the grocery store and got us dinner and breakfast for the other days. We had booked dinner and breakfast for only once at the hotel.
Paul and I had lunch at the hotel. Yuri was not hungry, he had eaten enough at the buffet. Paul had the twaalf uurtje and I the club sandwich. At the end of the afternoon Paul and I went to the bar of the hotel and had a limoncello spritz.
Saturday
We went to the city of Groningen on Saturday. In Forum Groningen we visited Storyworld (a museum) and the temporary exhibition Game On 50 Years Videogames. We had lunch at Stach, which is also in the Forum building. All 3 of us had a grilled cheese sandwich and shared a piece of apple pie. I was done earlier with the games exhibition than Paul and Yuri, so I had a spicy chai latter at Stach. Dinner was back in Heerenveen at Cafetaria “De Munt”. Paul had the satay plate, Yuri chicken nuggets and shoarma with fries and I had a döner bun plate. Always good to eat at a snackbar. They’re also really easy vacation meals.
Sunday
We went home on Sunday but with a stop at Giethoorn. Yuri and I visited the small Museum Giethoorn ‘t Olde Maat Uus and walked a bit through town. Then we stopped at Restaurant ‘t Hoogt in Soest for lunch. Yuri had the schnitzel, Paul an omelet and I kroketten with fries. Dinner was a homecooked meal of potatosoup with coconut from the cookbook Lekker Eten & Bewegen.
So a week with a long weekend away and some good museums and food.
