Week 53 2021 in Food Photos

The week between Christmas and New Year is usually a bit odd or at least different. We still had some leftover Christmas food in week 53 2021 and recipes I didn’t yet make. I also retried to make a recipe from the week before. Of course we baked oliebollen and celebrated New Years Eve.

For breakfast and lunch we had leftover sweets from Christmas, such as stol and apple-cranberry buns. For dinner more leftovers, a plate with ragout, red cabbage and Greek veggies. In a bowl I soaked raisins in rum for a cake I was going to prep on Wednesday.

Tuesday

Prepared a Schwarzwalder Waffle Cake with Cranberry Compote. Which we all loved. For dinner we had a Traybake with Chicken and Za’atar, which was delicious. The cake is a recipe from Het Zoetboek from Delicious, the traybake from the magazine Feest from Uit Pauline’s Keuken.

Wednesday

Prepared the Homemade Subway Bread Recipe for the second time. This time using new yeast, but sadly the buns failed again. Now I’m thinking that the problem lies in that you add salt too early together with the yeast. So for dinner we had Subway Melt on a baquette. In the evening I baked a Boerenjongenstaart for my mom. I baked the cake and made the layers with whipped cream.

Made the top layer of the Boerenjongens cake early in the morning. Since Paul had to work, we went early to his parents. That day was oliebollen frying day. Yuri helped his grandfather with the oliebollen, apple beignets and banana beignets. He and I both helped his grandmother with the apples and preparing the batter. We had Chinese and ice cream for dinner, to celebrate that Paul’s parents were married 50 years.

Friday

In the morning we visited my parents and delivered the Boerenjongens cake. The 31st of December is my mom’s birthday. We had lunch at my parents. In the afternoon we left for Callantsoog. We had booked 2 nights at Fletcher Badhotel Callantsoog. Both nights we had a 2-course dinner in our room. So delicious. On Friday Paul had a mackerel salad and Angus steak. Yuri had sole with risotto and a brownie. I had game stew and French toast with chocolate mousse.

We celebrated New Years Eve with bubbles and oliebollen at a small gathering at 9pm in the hotel lobby. Everyone keeping distance from each other. The rest of the evening reading and watching the oudejaarsconference until we went outside at 12.00 to watch the fireworks.

We could fill our plates at the breakfast buffet in the morning, as many times as we wanted. In the afternoon we did a short walk on the beach. At the hotel I ordered us a hot chocolate, Baileys coffee and Baileys hot chocolate. For dinner Yuri had a farmers schnitzel and split pea soup. I also had the split pea soup and a BBQ sticky bun. Paul had again the mackerel salad and had the Farmers schnitzel.

Sunday

Again the (all you can eat) breakfast buffet. We booked lazy day, so only had to check out at 1pm. For dinner we made fries, snacks and kroketten at home.

So that was our week 53 2021, and a good beginning of the New Year, that went on in week 1 2022.
