Tiramisu is a traditional and delicious dessert. However you do have to love the taste of coffee and with alcohol in it, it’s not really kid-friendly. Luckily there are many variations on tiramisu, like this Kruidnoten Tiramisu. There’s no alcohol in it and you can leave out the coffee. It’s what I did for myself and Yuri, Paul had one with coffee. This way the pepernoten tiramisu is kidsproof. It’s also perfect for a dessert at Sinterklaas and the current season with the kruidnoten. Kruidnoten are a traditional cookie with Sinterklaas, this way you can turn them into a dessert.
The recipe for this tiramisu kruidnoten dessert is from Koopmans. The kruidnoten are made with a Koopmans package. Besides kruidnoten the tiramisu has coffee, sugar, mascarpone cheese and eggs in it. The kruidnoten replace the lady fingers in an original tiramisu.

Review
Made it according to the recipe. Except that I used half a package of Koopmans kruidnoten, that was enough. Didn’t place them in the fridge for two hours, served them right away.

Kruidnoten Tiramisu
Allergies: wheat, gluten (can be gluten free, if you make gluten free kruidnoten), dairy, sugar, egg, caffeïne.
Ingredients
½ package of Koopmans Kruidnoten
2×2 tablespoons water
100 ml strong coffee
200 grams mascarpone
3 eggs
100 grams sugar
Instructions
Prepare the kruidnoten according to package instructions. Let them cool down. Crumble part of the cookies.
Mix the coffee with the crumbled kruidnoten in a bowl. Let the mixture soak for a while, before dividing them over 4 glasses. When preparing a coffee free version, don’t soak the crumbled cookies in coffee, just add the crumbled cookies to the glass.
Separate the egg yolks and whites. Place them in separate bowls. Stiffen the egg whites with half of the sugar. Whisk the egg yolks creamy with the rest of the sugar.
Add the mascarpone to the egg yolks. Whisk it. Fold in the egg whites with the egg yolks. Place this on top of the crumbled kruidnoten. Serve topped with the remaining kruidnoten.
Notes:
- Recipe source is the Koopmans website.
- Enough for 4 persons.
- When not serving immediately, place the cups in the fridge and don’t top them with the kruidnoten yet. Do this right before serving them. They will be soggy otherwise.
