We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in the Netherlands, however I was curious to try out traditional recipes made on that day. So I tried out Baked Sweet Potato Casserole. The combination of sweet potatoes and marshmallows sounded odd, and candy in a main dish was new, but we loved it. Although we found it a bit sweet. There are numerous sweet potato bake recipes, but I used a recipe from The Southern Lady Cooks.
The sweet potatoes are mashed and combined with butter, cane sugar, an egg, heavy cream, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkled with walnuts and pecans. This is the savory part of the dish, although with the sugar in their already a bit sweet. Then add marshmallows on top. A sweet and filling side dish. The combination is perfect.
Other delicious casseroles and oven dishes are Creamy Gnocchi, Spinach Pie, Crunchy Potato Skins, Eggplant Pesto Lasagna and Russian Dome Pie. A perfect potato side dish are the Perfect Crispy Potato Wedges.
Review
This was an easy to follow recipe and I actually didn’t change a thing. All the ingredients were available in the store nearby.
